By placing a 53’ intermodal container in the bottom well of a stack train car, it is impossible to gain access to the cargo via the container doors. With less than two inches of clearance between the container and the end of the well car, you simply cannot open the container doors. By getting your cargo off of trucks and off of the highway, you can reduce risks, decrease costs and reduce your environmental impact.
Expeditors Secure Intermodal containers are carefully managed and monitored by Expeditors personnel from container loading to confirmation of final delivery. Your high value cargo is closely monitored from door to door by Expeditors, our intermodal service providers, the underlying rail carrier and the federal railroad police. Origin and destination drays are performed by company trucks with GPS tracking. Once within the secured rail yards they are identified as high value and quickly placed in the bottom well where they cannot be accessed. On select lanes, the high speed intermodal train does not slow down or stop in unsecured sidings or rail yards.
